Ride Rating Guidelines

 

The following is a guideline of expectation on health and fitness for the CycleHosts events. Please do not hesitate to contact us to discuss any experiences listed and requirements to safely partake in the experience.

Type 1

Health and Fitness

You have some fitness which may include regular walking or cycling.  You feel comfortable walking or cycling for shorter periods of time (1-2 hours of gentle movement) and distance 5-7km walking or 30km cycling).  

Skill, experience and knowledge

Experiences that are ranked Type 1 require basic skills in the area i.e. walking, hiking or cycling.  Basic knowledge of equipment is required at this level.  It is not expected that you have specialist knowledge about nutrition for these events or equipment.



Type 2

Health and Fitness

You maintain a level of fitness that allows you to walk or cycle for several hours at a lower intensity, with some periods of higher intensity if required.  As a guide, you would be able to walk up to 10km for multiple days or cycle 30-50km comfortably.

Skill, experience and knowledge

You have some knowledge of managing equipment and nutrition during these type of experiences and how to prepare.  You feel comfortable partaking in different weather conditions if necessary.


Type 3

Health and Fitness

You have a solid base of fitness and train regularly to maintain your fitness level.  Walking multiple days of 15-20km or cycling 80-120km, for example, is very feasible. You have partaken in numerous events like this and know what is required to prepare and recover.

Skill, experience and knowledge

You feel comfortable partaking in challenging terrain, weather or circumstances.  You have been exposed to environments where your skill and knowledge has been challenged.  You know how to look after equipment and could be self sufficient if required.  


Epic

Health and Fitness

You train regularly, if not daily to ensure a peak level of fitness.  You have been partaking in experiences like this for a number of years.  You understand there will be challenging moments and know how to move through those moments.  You appreciate there may be periods of discomfort, but also appreciate and understand when you have reached your limit.

Skill, experience and knowledge

You have extensive skill and knowledge of walking, hiking or cycling in the conditions and terrain which this experience is occurring.  You know enough to teach or advise beginners in this space.  You also appreciate your limits and understand when to avoid pushing beyond those limits.
